Dennis Aukema, CPA

Dennis is the founder and owner of Aukema & Company P.C. With more than 30 years of experience, he goes beyond just crunching the numbers. Dennis helps clients gain a better understanding of their financial situation and assists clients in making both accounting and general business decisions. This advice is backed by years of experience of being a small business owner along with extensive accounting knowledge. He values building relationships with his clients and desires that each one succeeds. He is a member of the MiCPA and AICPA.

Founder

  • He was born in New Jersey and raised in Zeeland, MI. Before obtaining his accounting degree, Dennis worked on a farm which began his love the tractors spotted around office! After graduating from Holland Christian and later Central Michigan University, he started his accounting career at Marathon Oil Company. In 1993, he started in public accounting at Disselkoen & Company which he later purchased a portion of the business in 1998 when he formed Aukema & Company P.C.

    Dennis and his wife, Julie, live in Holland and both enjoy spending time hunting, fishing, and traveling. In addition, they are actively involved members at Borculo Christian Reformed Church.

David Aukema

David has been around Aukema & Company his whole life, but joined the team full time in December of 2021. He works mostly on business tax returns and financial statements. In the off season, you can find David coaching football, fishing, or spending time with his family

Accountant

Mark joined the full time team in 2024. He enjoys working on business tax returns and financial statements. During the summer, Mark and his family enjoy going up north, kayaking and spending time together.

Scott Meyer

With 25+ years of experience at Aukema & Co, Scott has developed many long-term relationships with businesses and non profits. He enjoys implementing strategies to minimize taxes and improve overall business operations.

In 2005, Katie joined the team at Aukema and works primarily on accounting and tax preparation for businesses. Katie and her family enjoy the outdoors, traveling, and spending time with friends and family

Brooke Visser

Since 2017, Brooke has worked on any projects that are sent her way - she now mostly works on business tax returns and financials. When she is not working, Brooke enjoys driving their golf cart around with her son and dog!

Sara Brower

With over 20 years of experience, Sara has mastered personal taxes here at the office. During the offseason, you can find her camping with her family or cheering on the Michigan Wolverines! Go Blue!

Katlyn joined the team in 2021, and has become a master of both payrolls and personal tax returns. Outside of the office, Katlyn and her family enjoy fishing, golf cart rides, and any outdoor activities.

Lauren Schwallier

Since 2022, Lauren has grown with our company and enjoys running payrolls along with working on personal tax returns. Lauren enjoys spending summer weekends at her family cottage. In the fall you will find Lauren in East Lansing cheering on the Spartans. Go Green!

Kim Bruining

In 2025, Kim joined the Aukema team bringing a wealth of knowledge for both personal and business tax returns. On her off days, Kim enjoys spending time with her grandson.

Molly Wieling

Since 2012, Molly has been the glue that keeps this office in tact. Molly enjoys keeping the office decorated and planning company events along with primarily working on 1041 trust returns, personal returns, payrolls, and 1099s.

Areal Vanden Akker

In 2020, Areal was added to the team full time as office manager. She enjoys keeping the office organized and doing behind the scenes work to be sure the office runs smoothly. In addition to working at Aukema, Areal works for Davenport University, where she has been Head Diving Coach since 2021.

Allison Walters

Since 2025, Allison enjoys helping keep the office organized along with general administrative duties around the office. In her off time, you can find Allison in the kitchen where she enjoys (and is really good at!) baking.

Julie Aukema

Julie married Dennis in 1996, so she has been behind the scenes with Aukema & Company since its beginning. She came on as an employee in 2011. Julie loves spending time with her family, whether it is hunting, fishing, or traveling - the Aukema’s family choice for vacation is Disney, where the villain characters are Julie’s favorite.
